The Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 set out technical requirements applicable to building work to protect the public interest. The technical handbooks explain how to achieve the requirements set out in the regulations.
The sections of the technical handbook most relevant to insulation are Section 2 (Fire), Section 3 (Environment) and Section 6 (Energy)
Following a review of standards and guidance relating to external wall cladding systems energy and environmental standards, fully revised Domestic and Non-domestic Technical Handbooks have been published and contain amendments to Section 0 (general) and Section 2 (fire) which came into force from 1 June 2022; and further amendments to Section 3 (environment), Section 6 (energy) and Section 7 (sustainability) which came into force from 1 December 2022.
